3 Reasons To Start Using Natural Deodorant Today

At Kacadas, one key element of our tri-fold mission statement is to educate others about the importance of transitioning our personal care and beauty products to truly natural, non-toxic alternatives. Choosing healthy products to put ON our bodies is as important as what we put IN our bodies. Many personal care products have dangerous ingredients hidden within them. Deodorant is applied very close to the breast, making it potentially dangerous to our breast health. In support of Breast Cancer Awareness month, we want to share with you three reasons why you should take a closer look at your deodorant and commit to make the switch to a natural alternative.

Here are three reasons to ditch your deodorant:
1) Aluminum- Many of us are aware of this ingredient now. Aluminum and its health risks have come to the forefront of the concerning ingredient list. Many brands have chosen to discontinue use of this ingredient, but it may surprise you how many have not. Aluminum clogs the pores in our armpits to prevent sweat. Blocking sweat means that our armpits cannot release toxins the way they are meant to. In addition to this, continued use of products containing aluminum means it can build up in the body. This ingredient is known to have potentially dangerous estrogen-like effects, so we definitely don’t want it in our personal care products.

2) Parabens- These are used to preserve products and increase their shelf life as well as stability. Common parabens found in deodorant and other personal care products include methyl, ethyl, butyl, and propyl. If you find these in your deodorants ingredient list, it contains parabens. Parabens are known to create hormonal imbalances which may increase the risk of infertility, thyroid problems, breast cancer, and more.

3) Fragrances- This is the world of gray area. “Fragrance” can be either natural or man-made (that can sometimes be chemical). The reason why fragrance is a gray area is because, by law, companies do not have to clarify the source of their fragrance. Is your deodorant naturally scented or with safe synthetics or scented by paraben/chemical ingredients? Look for companies that clearly state they are paraben-free or disclose what is used to scent their products. Many natural deodorants choose to use essential oils, fruit juices, or remain unscented!

It is so important to learn what is in the products we use. We can be safe, healthy, beautiful, happy and stink-free! Make the switch and grab a natural deodorant today!
